PETER TAPATAI

Principal

Peter is a Principal at LP who has spent his life in the Kivalliq and has seen the development of Agnico Eagle’s Meadowbank Mine from its early exploration days and through various other exploration projects in the region. Peter has been a powerful advocate for the sustainable development of non-renewable resources in Nunavut and investment in infrastructure and training in Nunavut. He understands first-hand the impact that the resource sector can have on Indigenous communities.

EITAN DEHTIAR

Principal

CPA, CMA

Eitan is a Principal at LP with experience that crosses over northern Canada, Alberta, BC, Manitoba, Ontario, Nunavik, and abroad. Furthermore, he has an extensive background in northern operations and has supported projects across the Canadian Arctic. As CFO of Braden Burry Expediting (BBE), he was the architect of a strategic plan that saw the company grow from $3 million to $32 million in revenue, and from 2 to 8 operating bases, including 6 Indigenous joint ventures. He brings significant experience in capacity building and in the development of Indigenous businesses, with a particular focus on Northern Canada. He has been involved in many capacity building projects and training programs across Canada and abroad and can provide guidance on effective capacity building strategies.

CAROLINE SPIGELSKI

With over 18 years’ experience in managing the planning, design and construction of residential and institutional buildings in the Canadian context, and extensive international experience as a project lead in the development sector, Caroline brings a balance of informed project managerial oversight, strong logistics skills, culturally appropriate management skills and consultative based approach with local cultures. Having worked on multiple complex lengthy planning and building projects she brings a depth of management experience from leading interdisciplinary and international teams both during the planning, scheduling and design feasibility phases and also in the implementation phase.

WILL BAKER

Will is an experienced researcher with a background in mining community research. Trained at the doctoral level in quantitative and qualitative research methods, Will has spent six years conducting PhD research of local community responses to technological change in nickel-copper production, industrial pollution and disease, and urban planning and land-use coordination policies in northern mining communities. Will has conducted research and analysis or provided consulting services to a number of private, public and not-for-profit organisations.

SAM MUWANGA-KITUNZI

Sam is a project manager, transportation engineer and social management specialist with over 30 years’ experience leading multi-disciplinary professional teams in Africa, the United Kingdom and Canada. He is an advocate for the inclusion of socio-economic considerations in the planning, design and implementation of investment projects, including integrating the requirements of stakeholder groups into project delivery. He has led numerous multidisciplinary teams in the management of development projects in the mining, transport, water, building and municipal service sectors.

Aaron Budd is a housing specialist who has worked on a diverse range of architecture, planning and sustainability consulting projects in over 20 different countries. His focus on supporting sustainable housing solutions in developing contexts. He managed the design and construction of community housing and facilities in domestic and international contexts. Aaron has lead a number of large scale master planning and housing projects around the world and is adaptable to new settings as he sets out to inspire both established teams and new teams formed for projects.

LENA TAPATAI

Principal

Lena is a Principal of LPN and has spent her life in the Kivalliq and has seen the development of Agnico Eagle’s Meadowbank Mine from its early exploration days and through various other exploration projects in the region. Lena is the former Mayor of Baker Lake and brings her intimate knowledge of Kivalliq and Nunavut communities to LPNs projects. Lena leads LPNs efforts in community animation, outreach and engagement within Nunavut communities. She understands the challenges inherent to remote communities facing resource development and provides a first-hand perspective to rapid growth and development in Nunavut.

Jason is a Principal at LP and experienced strategist, urban planner and social performance specialist. He assists his clients realize innovations in community building, benefit sharing and management of risk and impacts within resource, infrastructure and urban investment projects. He brings experience from across Canada and internationally in environmental and social governance, urban planning and community development. He has extensive experience leading participatory planning processes in support of investment projects and regional and municipal development to tackle rapid change, project impacts, physical displacement and land acquisition, housing and land management and local economic development.

ANNA DUNETS

Anna is a Senior Municipal Engineer with 30 years of Canadian and international project experience. She has led a number of complicated resettlement and worker housing projects, and brings to her work an intimate familiarity with both the stakeholder engagement and technical work streams required in successful community building. Her particular specialty is in the planning and design of community-based municipal infrastructure, including water, sanitation, road and drainage systems. Anna started her work in this area in northern Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut on housing and utilities for remote communities, including First Nations. She has won two significant awards from engineering societies in recent years: a Meritorious Service Award for Community Service from Engineers Canada (2012) and a Citizenship Award from the Professional Engineers of Ontario (2011).

MAUREEN ESTRADA

BA

Maureen grew up in Baker Lake. She left in 2001 and attained a Business Administration Diploma and a Bachelor Of Arts with a double major in Business Administration and Psychology. She has worked in corporate accounting in Winnipeg, MB and in the underwriting/fraud management and 401k retirement and pension accounting industries in Florida. She understands on an intimate level the issues and challenges for youth and others living in Nunavut such as housing shortages and access to education and employment. She is currently focused on improving the lives of Nunavummiut by working to reduce barriers to housing, training and development to improve recruitment and retention in Nunavut.

Sindu is a planner with a focus on land use planning, policy development and development approvals. With a comprehensive knowledge of planning policy, urban design and technical planning applications she is able to work effectively on varying scales of projects from Secondary Plans (including mixed use, residential, employment and institutional areas), Corridor Studies, Zoning ByLaw amendments and Plans of Subdivision. She has effectively and efficiently delivered planning services for public and private-sector clients.

RON ANDERSON

Ron is a sustainable development specialist with over 30 years of hands on management of social and environmental impacts from investment projects. He is the former chief social and environmental compliance manager at the IFC responsible for assessing impact and designing mitigation strategies. Ron provides strategic advise on project set-up to ensure compliance with international lending requirements while ensuring good practice approach to mitigation of community impacts.
